On March 4, 1954, Abner L. Daughtry had just returned to Station 2 from a call. Shortly after arriving back at the station he suffered a heart attack, and he died later that day at the hospital. He was 38 years old.
He was known as Guy throughout the St. Petersburg Fire Department, and it is the name engraved for him on the firefighters' memorial.
